Big Day by Verbrugge Ignites Panthers Win
The Pitman High Panthers put the giddy home crowd in an even more jubilant mood after beating the Pleasantville Panthers in the season opener at Batfish Ballpark. Third Baseman Adam Verbrugge won player of the game plaudits for Pitman High. He went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 4. Pitman High reliever Mark Porter was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Fred Parsons took the loss for Pleasantville. Denis Franco was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.

The Panthers beat the Panthers in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out home run Carlos Figueroa produced in the bottom of the fourth. Batting against Pleasantville pitcher Fred Parsons, Figueroa gave his team a 13-10 lead when he hit a grand slam.

"Good to get a win," said Verbrugge, "but it's a long season."
