The Long Beach State 49'ers handed the Rice Owls a sound defeat, 11-3, at Ballpark of Macclenny College. Tim Mitchell was a main contributor to the win. He went 2-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Long Beach State. The 49'ers own a robust 29-17 mark.

The 49'ers got an important contribution from pinch hitter Josh Gerhardt, who in the bottom of the seventh hit a 0-1 fastball into center for a run-scoring double. It was his 1st double of the season and put the 49'ers ahead, 4-3.

"We'll enjoy this win for now, but it's just one," Gerhardt told local reporters. "We've got to keep it going."
