Gamecocks Turn Back Ohio State, 3-1
|
The South Carolina Gamecocks got a magnificent performance from pitcher Marty Woodruff, who muffled the Ohio State offense en route to a tight 3-1 Gamecocks win at Scandals Ballpark. In 5.1 innings, Woodruff surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Jim Unknown closed the door for South Carolina, picking up his 1st save of the year.
In the bottom of the fourth, with the game tied, the Buckeyes allowed the Gamecocks to take a 2-1 lead on a base hit and Ohio State error.
Afterward, Gamecocks manager Orlando Torres was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
The Buckeyes, now 22-23, have lost 4 in a row.
