Baylor got an elite performance from starting pitcher Dave Sumpter in taking a 4-1 decision over the Texas A&M Aggies. Sumpter got the win, improving to 3-2. He allowed 3 hits and walked 2 over 6 innings. Sumpter allowed no earned runs. Baylor now sits at 21-23, while Texas A&M falls to 14-30.

A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the seventh inning when the Bears sent teenager Jared Buckley to the plate against Aggies hurler Aaron Downs. With the bases loaded and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 2-1 fastball to score 2.

"I had a good game plan," said Sumpter. "I made my pitches." His manager concurred. "It was all there," Carlos Garza said, "the velocity, the sharpness of his pitches."
