Crimson Tide Stun Cavaliers, 10-8
|
In a high-scoring game between Alabama and Virginia, first baseman Chris Royer was a difference-maker. The 19-year-old earned player of the game honors in the 10-8 Alabama win. He was 2 for 5 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Steve Caudill picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-1. Cody Botelho was tagged with the loss. Mike Shadron got credit for the save for Alabama. It was his 4th of the year.
Royer turned the game around in the bottom of the eighth. That's when the Alabama first baseman dialed up a grand slam home run. Just like that, Alabama's 8-6 deficit turned into a 10-8 lead.
"Guys always talk about winning games because of the 'little things,'" Royer told the Alabama Observer. "Call me old fashioned, but I think baseball is about the big things -- like scoring more runs."
The Crimson Tide move to 15-29 with the win, while the Cavaliers drop to 26-18.
