In a tight contest at Ballpark of Shiprock College, the Arizona State Sun Devils edged the UCLA Bruins by the score of 7-6. Arizona State right fielder Brent Driggs, who blasted 1 home run, was named the player of the game. Arizona State reliever Andy Crowley picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Marc McDougald was saddled with the loss. The Sun Devils improve their record to 28-15 with the win over UCLA.

In a game filled with surprises, perhaps none was as big as Driggs's contribution. The Arizona State right fielder is a relative newcomer. With no one out in the top of the seventh, when the Sun Devils had a runner on 1st, Driggs delivered a crucial 2-run home run.

"Not to put too fine a point on it," said Driggs, "but we really needed that win."
