Martin Helps Houston Outscore Tulane
|
Brian Martin was the difference-maker for the Houston Cougars in what turned into a shootout with the Tulane Green Wave. Martin earned the player of the game award after going 3-for-4 in the 17-16 Cougars win. Andre McNeal, who went 5 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 5 runs on 9 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 8. His record now stands at 1-4. Jesus Martinez got the save, the 5th for him this season.
Martin had a big at-bat with one out in the bottom of the third inning. With his team down, 1-0, the center fielder hit a grand slam home run to put Houston ahead.
"They're fun to watch and the hitters get to pad their stats but nobody's really happy about a game like that," Houston manager Cisco Sánchez. "I promise you I'm not happy."
Houston is now 22-20, while Tulane is 13-29.
