Nugent Smacks 5 Hits for Volunteers
|
Allan Nugent put on a hitting clinic today at Field of the Shield, spraying hits all over the ballpark and lashing South Illinois pitchers for 5 hits in 5 at-bats. However, the offensive onslaught wasn't enough for the Tennessee Volunteers, who still fell, 4-3.
"Sometimes I try to pull the ball too much, so today I just went with the pitch," Nugent told reporters after the game. "It's great to get 5 hits, but it would have been nicer to win the ballgame. too."
Allan Nugent doubled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Brandon Roberts in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 6th and singled in the 9th.
So far this season Nugent has gotten 68 hits in 174 at-bats for a .391 batting average with 10 home runs. His stats include 32 RBIs and 33 runs scored. He has played in 42 games.
