Wirfel 4-5 in Cougars Win
|
The Washington State Cougars easily defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 13-4, at Crowley College Grounds, with center fielder Barry Wirfel a main contributor to the win. He went 4 for 5 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4 for Washington State. The Cougars bumped their record to 23-17 with this latest triumph.
Wirfel came through for Washington State with a 2-run home run in the top of the first. He hit a first pitch fastball to right field, staking his team to a 2-0 lead.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Shinsui Sato said.
