49'ers Rally For 3-2 Win
|
Long Beach State rode a decent outing from starter Tony Aaron to victory over the Houston Cougars at Suns Ballpark. The final score was 3-2. The win was Brian Purdy's in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Kevin Freestone took the loss for Houston. Jim Unknown was credited with the save for Long Beach State, his 1st of the season.
Both teams had trouble manufacturing runs. So, Chase Hoene's at-bat in the top of the eighth was critical. With two out, the Long Beach State first baseman hit a solo home run, to give his team a 3-2 lead.
"I liked his command," said Long Beach State manager Richie Robertson. "Tony was throwing strikes."
Long Beach State is now 24-14, while Houston is 19-19.
