The Washington State Cougars faced a tough opponent in Baylor pitcher David Lawal, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Tribe Ballpark by a final score of 5-1. Lawal went 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Jim Unknown picked up the save, his 1st. Washington State now sits at 21-16, while Baylor falls to 16-21.
With two out in the bottom of the sixth, Andy Richards drilled a 2-run home run to right. It put Washington State ahead, 3-1. For the game, Richards was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Cougars manager Shinsui Sato, "I like our chances."
