The USC Trojans defeated the Tulane Green Wave, 5-3, at Nesquehoning College Fields. USC third baseman Chris Whatley was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The Trojans raised their record to 20-16.
In a game filled with surprises, perhaps none was as big as Whatley's contribution. The USC third baseman is a relative newcomer. With no one out in the bottom of the seventh, when the Trojans had a runner on 1st, Whatley delivered a crucial 2-run home run.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Whatley told the USC Times.
