In a close game at Surfers Ballpark, the Mississippi State Bulldogs edged the Stanford Cardinals, 3-2. Mississippi State catcher Matt Steiner earned the nod as player of the game. He was 2 for 4 with a home run. Mississippi State reliever Pete Sweitzer picked up the win, upping his record to 4-0. Bubba Pell shouldered the loss. Earning his 7th save for Mississippi State was Devonte Lebeaux.
In the top of the 3rd, the Bulldogs grabbed the lead on a two-out single by Mike Gamble. Mississippi State at the time was trailing 1-0, but Gamble's 2-run single off Bubba Pell put his team in front.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Mississippi State skipper Carlton Price. "I can't complain."
The Bulldogs go to 19-16, putting them 8th in the Cliff Gustafson.
