Strickland, Owls Too Much for Cougars
|
Getting a good performance from center fielder Shamel Strickland, the Rice Owls defeated the Houston Cougars, 7-5. Strickland went 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Owls. Rice reliever Jimmy Pennington was the winner. His record is now 3-0. The losing pitcher was Logan Hurley. The Owls saw their record improve to 19-15.
Strickland delivered in the bottom of the third inning for Rice. With the game tied and runners on 1st and 2nd, the center fielder hit a 3-run home run to left.
"They played a better game than we did," said Houston skipper Cisco Sánchez.
