Miller Excels, But Sun Devils Win
|
Louisiana-Layfayette right fielder Dan Miller was sensational. He was 2-3 with 2 home runs, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Arizona State beat the Ragin Cajuns, 7-4. Miller was named the player of the game despite the loss. Jeremiah Williams got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 5 innings. Jim Unknown was credited with the save for Arizona State, his 1st of the season.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Sun Devils sent teenager Greg Matthews to the plate against Ragin Cajuns hurler Mike Feyen. With the bases loaded and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a triple off a 1-1 slider to score 3.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Arizona State manager Tim Spencer.
Arizona State has an impressive 22-10 record.
