Big Day by Maynard Ignites Salukis Win
|
South Illinois and Georgia Tech duked it out at Field of the Shield and the Salukis came out victorious.
Chris Maynard was instrumental in his team's 9-6 triumph over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The first baseman went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the South Illinois Salukis. Mike Baker earned the save, his 8th.
South Illinois took a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, right fielder Travis Willems hit a 2-run home run that set the crowd abuzz.
"You never take a win for granted in this league," said Maynard.
The 'W' lifts South Illinois's record to 12-19.
