Verity Leads Pioneers to Win
|
The Vancouver Pioneers defeated the Cabo San Lucas Toreros, 6-4, in Thurman Munson League action at The Royal Court at Jersey Yards. Ron Verity received player of the game honors. The 15-year veteran was 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Vancouver starter Su-gyung Park was credited with the win after throwing 107 pitches over 6 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Picking up the save was Garry Strode, his 2nd.
The Pioneers got an important contribution from center fielder Edgardo Bustamante, who in the bottom of the sixth punched a 0-2 curveball into center for a run-scoring double. It was his 1st double of the season and put the Pioneers ahead, 5-4.
"Anytime I can help the team, I feel good about it," said Verity.
The win leaves Vancouver with a record of 4-4.
