Arkansas Topples South Carolina, 7-2
|
Arkansas played host to South Carolina at the friendly confines of Ramparts Ballpark.
The Arkansas Razorbacks stymied the South Carolina Gamecocks, 7-2, at Ramparts Ballpark. Brad Mathews, who had a good day at the plate, was named player of the game. He was 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for Arkansas. Tom Baker got the win, improving to 1-3. He held the Gamecocks to 2 earned runs on 4 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 1. Chris Bevilacqua nailed down his 1st save.
Jay Kelm, the Arkansas center fielder, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 3-2, Razorbacks. For the game, Kelm went 3 for 5 with 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Arkansas manager Chris Fleet.
With the win, the Razorbacks have a record of 17-13.
