Golden Bears Squelch Owls Offense in Shutout Win
|
The rain made it unbearable at times; nonetheless, the faithful who endured the elements at Prisoners Ballpark enjoyed themselves.
The bats were silent much of the day at Prisoners Ballpark. But John Sullivan conjured up just enough offense to carry the Golden Bears past the Rice Owls, 3-0. Sullivan went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk. Jim Unknown closed it out for his 1st save.
The Golden Bears had to work out of trouble in the top of the eighth. The score was 3-0, California, with one out. Rice, with runners on 1st and 2nd, was mounting a threat. Shamel Strickland dug in at the plate, but on a 2-2 fastball, he struck out.
The last-place Golden Bears lifted their record to 8-22.
