Cardinals Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Cougars
|
Stanford center fielder Aaron Mezzell played a vital role in his team's 6-4 triumph over Washington State. He went 2-4 with a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for Stanford. Reliever Chris Yochum picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Brandon Swift took the loss. Jim Unknown earned the save, his 1st, for the Cardinals.
Mezzell turned the game around in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Eric Anderson, the Stanford center fielder rapped a 2-run double. Suddenly, the 4-3 Stanford deficit turned into a 5-4 lead.
"Good win for us," said Mezzell. "Now we'll focus on the next one."
The Cardinals now own a record of 14-15.
