Victory Pushes Gamecocks Record to 16-13
|
Matt DeMaria was instrumental in his team's 7-5 triumph over the Kansas Jayhawks. The designated hitter went 1 for 1 with 3 walks for the South Carolina Gamecocks. South Carolina reliever Jim Riley got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Steve Canter was tagged with the loss. South Carolina is now 16-13, Kansas 11-18.
South Carolina catcher Oscar Diaz changed the complexion of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. That's when he belted a 2-run home run off Steve Canter. His 6th home run of the season put South Carolina in front, 6-5.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said South Carolina manager Orlando Torres.
