The Houston Cougars got a stellar performance from pitcher Jesse Truman, who handcuffed the South Mississippi offense en route to a 6-2 win at Suns Ballpark. Truman, now 1-2, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs. Michael Jones earned the save for Houston, his 1st of the year.

Brian Martin took George Fawns deep with one out in the bottom of the first. On a 0-1 fastball, Martin drilled a 2-run home run to left. It was his 7th home run of the season and put Houston on top, 2-0.

"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Truman told the Houston News. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
