Multi-HR Day for Strickland as Owls Overpower Ducks, 13-3
Shamel Strickland made an impact in the 13-3 Rice win over Oregon. Strickland hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 6. John Newmaster earned the win to go to 1-1. He allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Adam Brenner was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.

Tied up with the Ducks in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Owls got a boost from third baseman John Behrens. With a runner on 1st, Behrens saw a first pitch cutter from Jerry Webber and hit a 2-run home run to break the stalemate and put Rice on top, 5-3.
