Bulldogs Continue Hot Start to Season With Win
|
The Washington State Cougars got a superb performance from center fielder Barry Wirfel. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Fresno State. The Bulldogs won the game, 6-5. In spite of the loss, Wirfel was named the player of the game. He went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Fresno State has now won 4 games in a row.
In the bottom of the 6th, designated hitter Jeremy Carter gave Fresno State the lead when he hit a 2-run double. The Bulldogs had been trailing 4-3, but the two-out double off Washington State pitcher Bryan Beck changed that -- and Fresno State went on to win.
In postgame remarks, Carter said: "To all who've been doubting my effort -- I hope they saw this game."
