Salukis Get Road Win, 7-4
|
The South Illinois Salukis knocked off the Vanderbilt Commodores, 7-4, at Ballpark of Barrow College. Salvatore Marroquin, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason South Illinois won. The left fielder was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner was Dustin Ehrlich in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Bobby Peters took the loss. Mike Baker recorded the save for South Illinois, his 7th of the season.
Matt Burks helped out the South Illinois cause in the top of the fourth inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the designated hitter went 1 for 5 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Burks told reporters after the game.
South Illinois is now 10-15, Vanderbilt 14-11.
