The Hawaii Islanders outlasted Lai-hsiang Xiu and the Portland Beavers, 10-9. Xiu was impressive in the loss. The Portland first baseman went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 4 runs. The Islanders go to 38-30, putting them second in the Roberto Clemente League William Atteberry Division.

With one out in the top of the sixth, Katsuhiko Shimizu had a game-changing hit. The Islanders shortstop slammed a run-scoring single off Pedro Medina, making the score 7-5, Hawaii.

"Ugly win or not, we'll take it," said Shimizu.
