The Ohio State Buckeyes beat the South Carolina Gamecocks, 5-3, at Ballpark of Bloomfield College. The Buckeyes got a fine performance from right fielder Ben Blackwell, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times. Ohio State reliever Bobby Tibbals picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Marty Woodruff absorbed the loss. Ohio State now has a 3-game win streak.

An important at-bat for Ohio State came with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases empty, Blackwell hit a solo home run, which contributed to the Buckeyes win.

"This was a good win for us," said Blackwell. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
