South Illinois Topples Kansas, 3-1
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Field of the Shield. But Mike Hufnagel conjured up just enough offense to carry the Salukis past the Kansas Jayhawks, 3-1. Hufnagel was 2 for 4 with a home run. Dustin Ehrlich got credit for the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed 1 run on 5 hits in 3 innings. Mike Baker sewed up the save, his 6th.
With no one out in the bottom of the sixth, Salvatore Marroquin drilled a solo home run to left. It put South Illinois ahead, 1-0. For the game, Marroquin was 1-4 with a home run.
"Another day, another win. On to the next one," Marroquin told the South Illinois News.
The Salukis now have a record of 9-13 with the win over Kansas.
