Houston rode a good effort from starter Logan Hurley to beat the Fresno State Bulldogs at Brooks College Grounds. The final score was 5-2. Houston reliever Michael Jones picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Erik Skrzypek shouldered the loss. Jesus Martinez recorded the save for Houston, his 2nd of the season.
Both teams had trouble scoring runs. So, Jeremy Gilbertson's at-bat in the top of the eighth was huge. With two out, the Houston left fielder hit a 2-run single, to give his team a 4-2 lead.
"I think we all put in a good day's work," said Gilbertson.
The Cougars raised their record to 10-11.
