Jayhawks Fall Short, 8-7, at Michigan
|
Michigan withstood an impressive performance by Kansas second baseman Chad Stufft to defeat the Jayhawks, 8-7, at Siege Ballpark. Stufft was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. The winner was Travis Rufus in relief. His record improves to 1-0. David Sims took the loss. Michigan is now 9-11, while Kansas is 8-12.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Wolverines sent teenager Nate Trainum to the plate against Jayhawks hurler David Sims. With runners on 1st and 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a double off a 2-2 cutter to score 1.
"Nothing is scripted in this game," said Trainum.
