Maroney Leads Jayhawks to Win

Conditions were not ideal but Kansas and Missouri were able to put their game in the books.
The Kansas Jayhawks stymied the Missouri Tigers, 7-1, at Brutes Ballpark. Sterling Maroney, who had a good day at the plate, was named player of the game. He was 2-2 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3 for Kansas. Jesus Soria picked up the win with 5.1 innings of work. He allowed no earned runs on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 5. On the season, he is now 2-1. Curt Hargrave earned the save, his 1st.
Maroney brought the fans to their feet in the bottom of the fourth, when the 18-year old left fielder ripped a 2-run home run. The round-tripper put Kansas ahead, 2-0.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Maroney told a Kansas Daily reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
The 18th-place Jayhawks improved to 8-11.
