Rice beat Baylor on the strength of starter Chris Roberts's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 5-3 win. In 5.1 innings, Roberts surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Jim Unknown was credited with the save for Rice, his 1st of the season.

Also pitching in was Rice center fielder Danny Cancino, who hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, Cancino went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"Every win gets us closer to our ultimate goal," said Cancino.

The Owls go to 11-7, putting them 8th in the Cliff Gustafson.
