Demon Deacans Saddle Tar Heels with 12-5 Loss
With first baseman Matt Russell leading the charge, the Wake Forest Demon Deacans defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels, 12-5, at Cypress Quarters College Grounds. Russell, who is tied for 5th in the SBL with a 1.294 OPS, went 3-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs. Wake Forest reliever Austin Sheckler picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jeremy White took the loss. Wake Forest is in 6th place in the Ron Fraser Division with a record of 10-7.

The Demon Deacans beat the Tar Heels with some clutch hitting. The home run by Lance Allen in the bottom of the fourth is a good example. With two down, Allen gave his team the lead, 3-1, when he came through with the big hit.

"We take it day by day here," said Russell, "and today was a good one for us."
