Bruins Spoil Great Performance by Stone
Fresno State left fielder Danny Stone had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Stone was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice, even as UCLA beat the Bulldogs, 7-6. Stone was named the player of the game despite the loss. UCLA reliever Dave Thibodeau picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Cullen Wetmore shouldered the loss. The save was credited to Jim Unknown, his 1st.

With his team trailing 6-5 in the top of the ninth, D.J. Chester rose to the challenge. The UCLA left fielder got hold of a curveball from Cullen Wetmore for a 2-run home run. The round-tripper put the Bruins on top, 7-6.

"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Chester.

UCLA is 6th in the Cliff Gustafson with a record of 10-6.
