Jesse Seal knocked in all 3 runs for the Rice Owls, helping them beat the Ole Miss Rebels, 3-2. Rice reliever Jimmy Pennington got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Kevin Lynn was tagged with the loss. Getting the save was Jim Unknown, his 1st.
Lee Johnston had a productive at-bat for the Owls with one out in the top of the seventh. With runners on 1st and 2nd, the shortstop hit a single. The at-bat was important in the Rice win.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Rice skipper Jimmy Naylor. "I can't complain."
Rice has now won 3 in a row.
