South Illinois pitcher Tom Scholten gave the Wolverines all they could handle, but in the end, Michigan left Field of the Shield with a 3-1 win. Scholten allowed 1 earned run on 6 hits over 5.2 innings. The win was credited to David Kraus in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Josh Kent took the loss. The 21st-place Salukis have lost 5 consecutive games.
Emmanuel Ealey contributed to the Wolverines cause with a productive at-bat in the top of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, he hit a 2-run double, giving Michigan the lead.
