Longhorns Continue Skid Thanks to Zeigler, Beavers
|
Oregon State right fielder Hugh Zeigler was instrumental in his team's 6-3 win over the Texas Longhorns. Zeigler went 3-3 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Beavers. Marc Topoleski, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held the Longhorns to no earned runs on 5 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Texas has now lost 5 straight.
Rich Montague, not known for his power, had a big at-bat with no one out in the top of the sixth. That's when he connected on a fastball from Evan Ford for a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season put Oregon State in front, 4-2.
"You never take a win for granted in this league," said Montague.
