The Mississippi State Bulldogs got a strong performance from pitcher Jay Lynch, who stymied the Stanford offense en route to a 5-2 win at Crowley College Grounds. Lynch went 5.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 2-0. Mississippi State now sits in 13th place in the Cliff Gustafson at 6-6.

The Mississippi State win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Wayne Firestone. In the bottom of the second, the Mississippi State third baseman came to bat and hit a run-scoring double. It staked his team to a 1-0 lead.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Firestone said after the game.
