49'ers Take Nail-Biter Over Golden Bears
|
Long Beach State beat California at Ballpark of Macclenny College, eking out a 4-3 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Brian Lux, who earned player of the game honors. The winner was Long Beach State reliever David Guyer, now 1-0. The loser was Darren Thomas. The last-place Golden Bears have lost 4 straight games.
Late in the game, catcher Bill Beasley had a big at-bat for Long Beach State. In the bottom of the tenth, he hit a run-scoring double off Darren Thomas. The play gave the 49'ers a 4-3 lead.
"To not win that game stings a little bit," said California manager Kenny James.
