The Georgia Bulldogs got a sterling performance from first baseman Jerry LeGore, but the Cavaliers still prevailed, 6-5. LeGore was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Eddie Martinez in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Alex Vargas took the loss. Virginia, at 6-5, occupies 11th place in the Ron Fraser Division.

Had it not been for Steve Davenport, the results might have been different. In the top of the eighth inning, when the Cavaliers were trailing 5-4, Davenport hit a 2-run double for Virginia, giving his team the lead.

"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Virginia manager Larry Vaughn.
