Cardinals Edge Owls, 4-3
|
Rice got a terrific performance from catcher Brian Gibbs, but it wasn't enough to beat the Stanford Cardinals. Stanford won the Toughkenamon College Fields contest, 4-3. Gibbs was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Julio Uribe recorded his 5th save for Stanford. Stanford has now won 3 in a row.
It could have been a different outcome for Stanford, had it not been for Danny Hughes, the 19-year old third baseman . Hughes contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Stanford up, 4-3.
"It feels good to get this one," Hughes told the Stanford Daily.
