49'ers Fall Short, 4-3, at Fresno State
|
The Fresno State Bulldogs did just enough to sneak past the Long Beach State 49'ers, 4-3, at Brooks College Grounds. Fresno State pitcher Jeff Shue earned player of the game honors. Cullen Wetmore got credit for the save for Fresno State. It was his 5th of the year. The first-place Bulldogs have won 4 in a row.
In the bottom of the second, Kevin Jefferson took a curveball from Brandon Christopher and pounded a 3-run home run to left. It put Fresno State on top, 4-1. For the game, Jefferson went 1 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Long Beach State skipper Richie Robertson.
