San Diego starter Jim Phillips had a strong outing against the Hawaii Islanders at Aloha Stadium. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 8-4 win. Zong-yuan Sang, credited with the win, is now 4-3. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 1 innings. Juan Vázquez got the save, the 4th for him this season.

Both teams had trouble scoring runs. So, Gerardo Rosa's at-bat in the top of the ninth was huge. With one out, the San Diego shortstop hit a run-scoring single, to give his team a 3-2 lead.
