Late Rally by Golden Eagles Secures Win
|
The South Mississippi Golden Eagles took Ole Miss pitcher Cody Clayton's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Ballpark of Wrightsville College. The final score had South Mississippi getting past the Rebels, 5-4. Clayton went 5 innings and allowed 2 earned runs, striking out 6. Bob Chamberlain recorded the save for South Mississippi, his 2nd of the season. The Golden Eagles, now 4-2, have played some good baseball in the early going.
Had it not been for Jody DiCecco, the results might have been different. In the top of the eighth inning, when the Golden Eagles were trailing 4-3, DiCecco hit a 2-run double for South Mississippi, giving his team the lead.
"It all depends on which version of our team shows up," said DiCecco. "When we put it all together, I think we're a great team."
