Sooners Overcome Great Performance by Howard in Win
|
Virginia third baseman Jared Howard had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Howard went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2, even as Oklahoma beat the Cavaliers, 10-8. Howard was named the player of the game despite the loss. Andy Parsons was the winning pitcher. Over 5.2 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 8 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. The win takes Oklahoma to 3-2.
Joe Neel played a key role in the win. The Oklahoma first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, Neel went 1-4 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 2.
