Cardinals Snatch Late Win
|
Ole Miss pitcher Gabe Perkins gave the Cardinals all they could handle, but in the end, Stanford left Ballpark of Wrightsville College with a 11-8 win. Perkins allowed no earned runs on 2 hits over 6 innings. The winner was Stanford reliever Nathan Martin, now 1-0. The loser was Elijah Cooke. With the loss, Ole Miss is 2-2.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Cardinals grabbed the lead when Travis Voss rapped a two-out double. Stanford was trailing 8-6, when Voss hit a bases-clearing double off Elijah Cooke to put his team in front, 9-8.
"Guys always talk about winning games because of the 'little things,'" Voss told the Stanford Daily. "Call me old fashioned, but I think baseball is about the big things -- like scoring more runs."
