South Mississippi turned a good effort from starter Chris Brewer into a win over the Houston Cougars at Ballpark of Storm Lake College. The final score was 4-1. South Mississippi, now 3-1, has played well in the early going.

With a runner on 1st and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, pinch hitter Fernando Duran delivered big for the Golden Eagles. South Mississippi was leading 2-1 when he belted a 2-run home run.

"Chris was throwing strikes, locating well," said South Mississippi manager Jason Metcalf.
