Salukis Walk It Off for 1st Win of Season
Fans who came to Field of the Shield watched the South Illinois Salukis and the Vanderbilt Commodores fight to the finish.

The South Illinois Salukis defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores, 8-7. Earning player of the game honors was first baseman Chris Maynard, who went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The loss drops Vanderbilt to 1-1.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the tenth. With one out, Maynard hit a splitter from Jim Unknown for a solo home run. The Salukis, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.

"Our guys just had that look of determination," said winning manager Justin Page.
