The 2032 season did not get off to quite the start the Kansas Jayhawks had hoped, with an opening day loss to the Miami Hurricanes at Brutes Ballpark. The final score was 3-2. Starting Pitcher Gabe George was named player of the game for Miami. George, now 1-0, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs.
It could have been a different outcome for Miami, had it not been for Ryan Castro, the 19-year old left fielder . Castro contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put Miami up, 3-2.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Castro.
