The Palm Beach Bums thumped the St. Petersburg Pelicans, 8-2, at Billy Mathews Field. Yoshimochi Takahashi was a big reason his team got the win. Takahashi went 3-5 with a triple and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Hitoshi Miyahira, the winner, improved to 4-4. He held the Pelicans to 1 earned run on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 2. The 5th-place Bums lifted their record to 64-98.
Takahashi went 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4 against the Pelicans. With the game tied in the top of the fourth inning, he hit a run-scoring single that scored 1 and put Palm Beach in front, 2-1.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Bums manager Juan Carlos Serrano. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
